The Thorne Rooms and My MINI Bucket List

Yes, MINI friends, I crossed #1 off my MINI bucket list! The Miniature Thorne Rooms at the Art Institute of Chicago were well worth seeing. Actually, more than worth seeing. They are incomparable. We see many beautiful miniatures in today's world. We have the benefit of technology, manufactured components and such; these works in miniature were entirely handcrafted. The carving is meticulous, the detail is phenomenal, the study and accurate use of materials to the full scale cannot be rivaled. Our contemporary eye may see flaws in the flowers and food items; however, keep in mind, the artists had no polymer clays, nor a history of 'how to' information that is the luxury of today's artist. Mrs. Thorne's passion for research and design is in itself impressive. Please, if ever given the chance to see them, jump, run or fly to see them. The word amazing does not do them justice. ~judy www.justminiaturescale.com
