I recently had the pleasure of visiting Baltimore. My husband and I took an afternoon to stroll around the Little Italy neighborhood (found a great pizza place, thought we found a great bakery, but alas the girls behind the counter were too busy chatting to welcome us, so we left :( ).Tucked in front of a random building was a delightful house on a pole. I thought maybe a bird house until I looked closer. It was a Free Library filled with Children's books!
In 2009 Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin, built a model of a one room schoolhouse. It was a tribute to his mother; she was a teacher who loved to read. He filled it with books and put it on a post in his front yard. His neighbors and friends loved it. He built several more and gave them away. Each one had a sign that said FREE BOOKS. The movement has spread. The houses are simple to complex. Just another example of how our passion for miniature houses spreads to other walks of life!
