The Shining

Our MINI countdown to Halloween continues with another Hollywood use of a creepy dollhouse: The Stanley Hotel is most iconic for serving as the inspiration for the fictional Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's novel, The Shining. The production crew for the 1995 miniseries created 2 dollhouses to use for the filming of the hotel burning down. They got the shot in one take, so they gifted the second house to the real Stanley Hotel in Colorado, where it is on display. I will never forget Jack Nicholson: [Smashing the door to bits with an axe] in the character, Jack Torrance, saying, "Wendy, I'm home."
