The Astolat Dollhouse Castle

I have had a pet peeve for years. I have been interviewed for publications and television over the years many times regarding dollhouse miniatures. Inevitably the reporter would focus on cost and how expensive miniatures are. I usually tried to wend the direction more towards the unique nature of this hobby which offers something that transcends economics, generational barriers, physical abilities and more. That being said, it is necessary to mention value in today’s post. No need to criticize the creator for the dollars invested; my father always told me- bring to everything you love, what you have; don’t get hung up on what others’ have. So I tip my MINI hat to this beautiful creation and the devotion and passion of its creator!
The Astolat Dollhouse Castle (www.astolatdollhousecastle.com) is appraised as the most valuable dollhouse in the world. This museum quality dollhouse was officially appraised in 2015 for $8.5 million. Inspired by Alfred Tennyson's poetry about the Lady of the Lake, Astolat Dollhouse Castle was created between 1974 and 1987 primarily by master miniaturist Elaine Diehl with support and assistance from artisans from around the world. In addition to its 9-feet height, it has 29 rooms, hallways, corridors, sitting areas, and windows. Consisting of seven levels, stairways, and hallways, Astolat Dollhouse Castle was created for 360 degree viewing. The interior spaces include miniature fittings and furniture most of which are antique, hand-crafted, and one-of-a kind. Some are even artifacts from Pompeii. Other furnishings, and ancillary art includes sculptures, original oil paintings, portrait miniatures, hand sewn tapestries, carved wood moldings, chandeliers, sconces, framed mirrors, and accessories. These include miniature inlaid marble bathrooms, parquet floors, gold chandeliers, hand etched wood panels, and pieces made of gold. Most of the interior furnishings and artwork are original and were purchased at auctions from private collectors, or commissioned from known miniaturists and artisans. The lighting features fully illuminate all areas of Astolat and separate day and night-time lighting systems automatically adjust based on the time of day.

The Astolat Dollhouse Castle is to go on a worldwide tour beginning in New York sometime around the holidays. I just put this on the top of my MINI bucket list! 1. Hello Judy,
It is a wonderful dollhouse. I love the quality miniatures within. I get quite upset at people who criticize money spent on hobbies. I work hard for my salary and I'll spend it any which way I please! Anyone who dares criticize me will get one h#$$ of an earful.
