They are technically a blend of camera and practical effects, but a lot of time they're given their own listing in the credits since they often require specialists and staff focusing on just building the miniatures. From the 1933 King Kong Ape to highly technical miniatures such as the sinking Titanic, miniatures and film making have gone hand in hand. As our Countdown to the Oscars continues, make a note to watch for any mention to the award that goes to this technical achievement.
